Betty Lou (Farr) Beckner, 84, left this earthly life on August 27th, 2017 in Arlington, Texas.
Born August 12th, 1933 in Lampasas, Texas, she moved to Clayton, NM during high school and graduated from Clayton HS in 1951. She married her high school sweetheart, Weldon Beckner, May 10, 1952 and recently celebrated 65 years of marriage. She graduated from Wayland Baptist University in 1955. She was a loving mother to four daughters and grandmother to 14 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.
She taught elementary school and high school English for almost a decade in Lorenzo, Brownfield, and Lubbock, TX. After a career as a successful realtor, she returned to her love of teaching at Columbus Avenue Baptist Church, Waco, TX to instruct English as a second language.
An active choir member, Sunday school teacher, and participant in women’s ministry during earlier years, she was a current member of Walnut Ridge Baptist Church in Mansfield, TX.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Hosea and Willie Mae Farr, four brothers and five sisters.
A celebration of life service will be held at Walnut Ridge Baptist Church, 1201 TX-360, Mansfield, Texas, September 1st, 2017, 12:00 p.m.
Visitation will be August 31st, 6-8 pm at Blessings Funeral Home, 401 Elm Street, Mansfield, TX.
Survivors: She is survived by her husband, Weldon Beckner of Mansfield, TX, daughters: Brenda (Ted) Steed of Arlington, TX, Marilyn (Chris) Stelly of Greenville, SC, Gayla (Randy) Grace of Bossier City, LA, and Jan (Bob) Gull of Bettendorf, Iowa; sister Cordie Mae Dillard in addition to multiple grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Weldon and Betty Beckner Education endowment fund at Wayland Baptist University, Plainview, Texas.
