Avena was born Oct. 22, 1919 to Miles B. Sutton and Lillian Olena Robertson (Mama Sut) of Crossroads, where her father owned a grocery store. Her beloved twin sister, Adena Sutton Tice was born moments later.
Avena graduated from East Texas State Teachers College, where she earned her degree. She taught elementary school in Missouri City, Texas while Percy completed medical school.
They moved to Mansfield in 1951 where she spent the rest of her life as a homemaker and the best mom in the world. She loved her church and kept her Bible nearby her chair.
To all the caregivers, nurses and therapists that cared for Mrs. Cook, the family extends to you a heartfelt Thank You. Your loving support and caring for our mother, our Mimi, meant the world to our family.
