Reflections on Anne Regina Odman: Annie to family and close friends. She was born to William August and Patricia Ann Odman on June 6, 1965 in China Lake, California. She was number 6 of 6…all girls. Christy was first; followed by Jan then Teresa, Laura and Suzie. Twelve years separated oldest to youngest.
She was born on a Sunday. She made her entrance and even then, demanded all the attention. We remember this because Mother was up and directing us to church. Teresa was receiving her first communion that day and was sent off with the neighbors to church in town. Jan and I walked to the catholic services at the all faith chapel on base. When we returned dad told us we had another sister. I wanted to name her Samantha Claire…good thing I wasn’t in charge.
We were a military family and traveled extensively to different bases and states. We settled in Fort Worth, Texas when she was 4 and she was truly raised a Texan. All 5 of us have different memories of Annie growing up. We could each write a book about our family stories and the people who were family by choice, loves, crushes and the ones to leave alone.
She had a wicked sense of humor, sarcastic, witty and a sharp tongue. She chose to not marry and to not have children. Instead she loved (but only if they weren’t looking) her nieces and nephews, Sarah, David, Caleb, Eric, Rachel and Cassandra. She loved her brothers in-law Ron and Curt, often challenging, inserting her opinion (asked for or not) and laughing with them.
She loved a road trip, country music, cats, a good argument and words. She had a big heart loving fiercely but selectively. We will miss her interpretation of events, outspokenness, willingness to help (even begrudgingly babysitting) and laughter.
