Ann Walker

August 26, 1937 — March 23, 2017

Ann Walker, born August 26, 1937, went to live with our Lord and Savior on March 23, 2017. Ann was born in Robert Lee, Texas to Hiram D. and Edith Gartman. Ann was married to George Walter Walker on October 16, 1957 in Arlington, Texas. Three children were born to this union, Ben M. Walker, Jill Walker Beatty and Douglas M. Walker.
Ann worked as a secretary most of her life. Her first job was with Lone Star Gas in Dallas, later she worked a short time at Texas Instruments as a transistor welder. In 1967, Ann and George moved to Big Spring, Texas where she took a job with Webb Air Force Base. Ann also worked for Howard College and took courses in Office Administration. Ann later took a job with the VA Medical Center where she was employed until she retired in 2000. She made numerous friends that lasted her lifetime.
Ann was a devout Christian and a charter member of Fielder Road Baptist Church in Arlington, Texas. Ann’s strong belief in Our Lord carried over from her personal life to her work life and touched so many people that came in contact with her.
Ann’s passion was her Lord and Savior and her family. She loved to square dance, loved to sew, loved reading and was an excellent fisherman (woman). Ann enjoyed being outdoors, working in the yard, loved camping and enjoyed the fellowship of her friends and neighbors. Her friends were very important to her and she treasured each one. In her later life, she even liked hunting with her husband. Ann’s husband and children were the light of her life. Her love for them was as obvious as their love for her.
Ann is survived by her husband of 60 years, George. She is survived by her children, Ben Walker and wife Lisa Petruzzelli, Jill Walker Beatty and husband Steven Beatty, and Douglas M. Walker. Ann is survived by her grandchildren, Clayton Walker Young and wife Melanie, Lindsay Walker, Joshua Walker, Nathan Walker, and Alexander Walker, and siblings, Doris Stroup, Joyce Hodges, Grace Harrington, and Jay Gartman and wife Linda, along with numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Nellie Swaim and brother, Eddie Gartman.
The family would like to acknowledge and thank the staff of Isle of Watercrest Memory Center for the love and care that they bestowed upon our wife and mother during her stay. We would also like to thank Hospice of Arlington for their care during the time it was needed. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests as an option that you make a donation in Ann’s name to the Alzheimer’s foundation in your area.
