John Edward (Jay, J.E.) Frye Jr., of Mansfield, TX, passed from this world on August 26, 2022 at age 86. Jay was born in Highlands TX on January 23, 1936 to John Frye Sr. and Merle Moore (Frye, McCracken.)
He grew up in Oak Cliff, TX and graduated from Sunset High School in 1954. He proudly served in the United States Army after which he attended North Texas State College.
J.E. met the love of his life, Diane Rhodes (Frye) in 1957. They were married on June 28, 1958 in Dallas, TX. They have one son.
Jay was survived by his wife of 64 years, Diane Frye, son Bryan Frye and wife Leslie, grandson Mason Frye and wife Eron and son Archer, grandson Gage Frye and wife Josie and children Julian, Matthew and Max, granddaughter Piper Frye and son Anthony, and grandson Lucah Frye. He was also survived by his sister Shirley Herring, her children, Danny Herring and wife Debra, Sherrie Herring Hart and husband Neil, Greg Herring and wife Rose, Karen Herring Monahan and Brad Herring and wife Candy. Also surviving Jay was nephew Ron Wilson and his wife Joy. He also left behind many great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Myrna (Wilson) Stinson ahd husband Earnest and by nephew Warren Wilson.
In his early career he worked in computers for LTV. He and Diane owned restaurants in the late 1980’s, and together they also managed hotels and storage facilities.
Jay enjoyed playing his guitars and singing country and western songs. He loved baseball and his childhood hero was Mickey Mantle. He was passionate about his golf game, the Dallas Cowboys, the Dallas Mavericks and his Texas Rangers.
J.E. was never without the perfect, situationally-appropriate joke and loved to tell stories about his family and his many, many friends.
A visitation for family and friends will be held on Wednesday August 31, 2022 from 6pm-8pm at Blessings Funeral Home in Mansfield, TX.
